Sun 30th August, 2020

Many people are choosing to continue avoiding using the tube or bus as much as possible, its the best time to explore London on foot. There’s no better way to explore the cities canal paths, parks, streets and more.

We’ve rounded up our 5 favourite walks across the city.

  1. Parkland Walk

The Parkland Walk is known as London’s longest Local Nature Reserve, which makes it perfect for spotting wildlife. Dependent on season, you could see foxes, hedgehogs or deer on your way!

At 4km long, Parkland Walk is the ideal for a weekend outing whether you’re a local or a tourist. We recommend starting at Finsbury Park tube and follow the route all the way to Alexandra Palace.

2. The Jubilee Greenway

jubilee greenway

The Jubilee Greenway gets its name from the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee to mark 60 years on the throne. This 60m route created in 2012 and it’s 10 sections cover much of the capital. The first section is an incredibly picturesque walk between the winding waterways of Little Venice and Buckingham palace.

You’ll also get to see Constitution Hill, through Hyde Park, past Kensington Palace and Paddington. You’re sure to have worked up an appetite after your walk so continue to Camden for street food and shopping.

3. The Line

The Line is the perfect walk for art lovers and appreciators of culture. The route runs from Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to the Greenwich Peninsula.

Along The Line you’ll be treated to all kinds of sculptures and installations like Thomson and Craig’s Here signpost and Alex Chinneck’s upside-down electricity pylon sculpture.

4. The Thames Path

the thames path

Thames path is 184 miles long, so we recommend exploring this path across a couple of days. The last few miles of this path offer beautiful, riverside walks that cross through central London. The north route takes you through Chelsea, Hurlingham Park and Westminster and Embankment and ends off at at the Tower of London and the Tower Bridge.

The South Bank route starts in Wandsworth and diverts from the river through Battersea Park and the old power station and includes the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament, galleries, restaurants and theatres.

5. The Hampstead Circular Walk

Hampstead circular walk

Hampstead circular walk is self-guided and explores the luscious green spaces of Hampstead Heath.

We recommend climbing Parliament Hill for incredible views of the city’s skyline and end the walk off with some team and cake at Kenwood House. This route takes you through some of the most beautiful parts of Hampstead.

6. Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Walk

This memorial walk covers four parks, two mansions, three palaces and lots of meaningful locations associated with Princess Di. On this route enjoy wandering through Green Park, Hyde Park, St James Park and Kensington Gardens.

If walking with children, be sure to make a stop at the playground, where kids are sure to love the teepees, pirate ship and sculptures which are all inspired by the magical adventures of Peter Pan.
